Bill may have identified the real problem, that is the plant is not
fully hardy here. My plants were grown from seed, however, and
therefore have overwintered outside for at least one year. I try
species just to see if the published hardiness is correct. I. wattii is
not, for example, but many other species are even through the books
suggest otherwise. I was originally told, for example, that Louisianans
would not grow here but the three that I have grow like weeds and flower
profusely.
Half my I. tectorum were lost this year despite a very mild winter - but
one with very little snow.
