Since it
was collected in 1612, no parentage is given for it. I believe it's
considered a TB even tho it looks like an MTB. Is it also considered close
to a species, or do we think that someone hybridized it way back then?>>
It is considered a "collected" iris, meaning it was brought into cultivation,
and was first published in Swert's 'Florilegium', a botanical book of 1612.
It is a delicate TB, blooming to about 33," though frequently shorter. It
often tends to resemble a BB.

Sexual reproduction in plants was understood, albeit imperfectly, by some in
the XVII century, especially the role of insects, and indeed certain passages
in Shakespeare's work indicate he knew how it happened, but deliberate
hybridization of irises as we know it did not arise until the XIX century.
