There have been comments and questions concerning the 'wire rim' on
the standards of DRADY, (which has been registered under the
'amnesty,' no fee, registration opportunity for introduced but not
registered historic iris)
DRADY (Philip Edinger, R. 1999). MTB, 24" (61 cm), ML. S. and style
arms ice white to pure white; F. violet, veined white on upper third;
beards white at end, yellow in throat. Parentage and hybridizer
unknown; in circulation prior to 1960.
The registration data does not mention the 'wire rim' as neither Phil
Edinger or I saw, photographed or bloomed DRADY in the three years
prior to registering it.
I can now confirm -- it DOES show a 'wire rim' on the standards when
happy. (Mine bloomed 27 inches tall, perfect MTB form, extremely well
branched, four buds in all sockets and was one of the most
distinctive iris in my garden this spring.)
There is an upgraded photo on the HIPS website that has a link to a
close-up showing the standard's colored edge.
