Interesting reading on iris "shows", the good, the bad and the ugly!!
Our club has done both judged (AIS shows) and those judged only by the
public. Without exception the un-official shows were more fun, easier
without all the presure that judged shows put on clubs, espically small
clubs who do not have the manpower to be good hosts to judges and get
their flowers prepared on time. Invariably someone comes in with two
buckets of stalks ten minutes before judging. This year due to the fact
that judges could not be found, we decieded to do a public judged show,
we all pitched in got those stalks out almost on time, then we let the
public do all the touching, pinching, pulling, smelliing:etc. Handed
out allot of club info, gave some demonstrations. Still not sure which
stalk won, just isn't that important, the main thing is that we got the
public interested and asking questions. Hope these comments do not
offend anyones competative spirit. Still think the main reason for a
show is to show the public what a great flower the "iris" is.

happy.
