Not so much dubious as ignorant, but you won't come across him, so don't
worry. Anything I buy I verify as best I can, and anything too dubious, I
avoid. He had a lot of stuff from Sue and Garry Reid, who put out a mail
order cat. of rare bulbs. I'm fairly sure they would be reliable, and
everything he had was well labelled.
The TB's come from Norgates, down Trentham way, and all the iris people know
they are incorrectly labelled, but Norgate's mail order cunstomers don't.
There are a few mail order bulb nurseries in Vic, that sell incorrectly
labelled irises. Norgates told me they got their names from Tesselaars.
Someone from Tesselaars checked them out ages ago, and said you've got such
and such, and they have been thus named ever since.
>The only foetidissima I know is pinkish yellow (sort of)
I found a picture in Kohlein, and it looks like the picture he had on the
plant. Much like your description. Kohlein also mentions , white, blue, and
yellow. Time will tell.
It's the variegated one that I'm most curious about. It doesn't look like my
pallida, and I haven't seen the variegated psuedocoris.

Dianne has it, but not enough to spare just yet. I think she has you in
mind.
AJ gave me a very old catalogue (1963-4) from Errey Bros. Camperdown, vic,
which lists heaps of historics. I'll check if she has another, and send it
to you. I will see her on saturday.
I love their little comment at the front of the catalogue:
Are your irises out of date?
"Many iris gardens have now reached the stage where replanting has become
necessary, and this is the time when you should take stock and discard all
but the greatest favourites. You may be loath to part with some of the
varieties that have given you so much pleasure over the years, but the newer
developments are so much better and will bring distinctive beauty to your
garden for a small outlay and no extra work. For an investment in beauty,
select from our list..."
An excellent sales pitch don't you think?
I'm very jealous of all your rebloom! Might have more luck next year - we
are planning a major upheavel - shifting to Ballarat. Garden and all.
It's quite a bit cooler there, with snow occassionally (well icy slush
really). Beautiful volcanic soil.
More on that later - I will need heaps of advice on moving something like
400 large clumps of irises, and many smaller ones, that will go in pots.
I'm sending to the list, because I can't find your address off hand, and I'm
vain enough to think that something I have written might be of interest to
the list.
Cheers, Jan
