Nearly every report on this list of irise turning white has been someone who
knows someone who this happened to. Who has actually had it happen
themselves, out of nearly 500 of us, without a logical explanation?
Mine 'turned white' when I knew little about irises, and it was simply an
invasion of the very rampantly growing NEW SNOW. I solved the problem
finally by seperating everything out, allocating a large area in my vegie
garden, and growing them all on until flowering. I eventually ended up with
10 of the original 14 or so colours that I started with, including some very
special ones, which continue to do well, kept isolated from other cv's. This
took about 2 years.
John - I think a survey would be in order. Who on the list has had a patch
of irises turn white? Who knows someone who has? What background do they
have? accurate labels, keep everything seperate, careful to dig the whole
plant and little off sets? Use roundup?
I suspect there will be a very definite pattern to the answers.
I don't quite know how you would word this survey.
Cheers, Jan
