Re: SPEC: I foetidissima

I'm fairly sure now, I have the real thing. What else do Woodbridge have in
irises?

I have also been caught by Norgates

Don't be to sure, I have heard that there are not many real GOING MY WAY's
around either. A much more difficult one to sort out. At least we know BB
isn't a dark blue plicata.

These nurseries - Norgates and the like (there are quite a few selling
wrongly named irises) are not iris experts. They are often people expert in
another field, who just happen to sell a few irises that they have got from
a friend of a friend, and probably never had a name for in the first place.
I agree with you - if they are well known they should have sorted this out,
and removed the incorrect names. Heaven knows they have been told often
enough by somewhat irate iris growers who DO know what they are talking
about.
I think one can excuse the country market stall holders. You can sell
anything you like short of dope plants, at these markets, and they most
likely think they have correctly named plants. There's no law against that,
and it's buyer beware. Anyway - you can occaissionally pick up some gems, if
you know what you are looking for.
Cheers, Jan
