The Iris Society of America's First Frontier held its show in
conjunction with the Greeneville Iris Festival this year, a scheduling
arrangement that caused the show to be held late in the bloom season.
However, in spite of the lateness of the season and three weeks of
drought, the show attracted about 70 entries, according to ISAFF
President Mack Hughes.
Since this is not yet an AIS judged show, it is more properly an iris
display, with a people's choice award going to the top vote getter.
Hughes said the alignment with the Iris Festival brought many more
people to see the show than normal, and they were from all over the
country. In addition to tall bearded, there were historics, miniature
tall bearded, species, spuria, Japanese, Siberian and Louisiana iris
shown.
Top vote getter was Supreme Sultan, shown by James Brooks. Second place
ribbon went to Loop the Loop, shown by Eleanor Mosca. Both are
Schreiners irises, as was last year's winner, Sweet Musette, also shown
by Brooks.
Hughes said plans are for the show to move up to an AIS judged show
next year, if necessary arrangements can be made.
