Daniel: Sounds like you're a little bit colder than my area. The main
thing with PCIs is to plant them when they won't have their roots drying
out. For me, I have hot weather through Sept., and even Oct. is still too
warm. My suggestion is to prepare your bets 1-2 months ahead of time, and
then plant when your rains have started or the weather is cool and you can
water as if it were raining. For me, my best luck in survival is
transplanting in November.
