iris color question

I have a question about some iris' I planted two years ago. I got them from my Mom, who got them from my Grandfather. The original plants were planted over 40 years ago. They have alway been the most beautiful purple/lavender blooms. Last year when they came up here, they were just as I expected them to be. This year they are YELLOW! I planted no other iris' than these. Could the color change be due to something lacking in my soil? I am new to flower gardening, so really need some advice.
