    Perhaps Thornbird and Conjuration were some of his best work at that
time.  Having lived nearly in his back yard, I still remember the excitement
of local club members who first saw Conjuration in his seedling bed before
he had selected it for introduction.   We saw that it had distinctiveness
and abundant bloom, even then.
