Ahhh, now youre talkin
I grew Crystal Ruffles for quite a few years and it
did have a high bud count. I cant find my old notes
at the moment but I recall it had beautiful wide
slender branching and a but count of about 12. I seem
to recall a stalk having 15 buds. Crystal Ruffles
also had beautiful ruffled form. Given your interest
in diploid breeding you should add Crystal Ruffles to
your stable.
I am always looking for cultivars with good branching
and bud count but unfortunately, that information is
difficult to find. People dont really pay much
attention to those details. Personally, I find it to
be an important detail, especially after waiting a
whole year to see my irises bloom. I want to see more
than 5 or 6 buds. I want to see at least 10 buds or
more. And I dont want them to bloom all at once
either. I look for the ones that bloom sequentially so
as not to be overcrowded.
Some of the irises that I grow that has a high bud
count would be:
Announcement SA TB 12 buds
Before The Storm TB 12 buds
Ben A Factor tetraploid MTB 7-11 buds
Blowout tetraploid 9-12 buds
Capricious Candles SA TB 10-12 buds
Conjuration SA TB 10 buds
Cybernet BC diploid MTB 9-10 buds
Deja Blue SA RE TB 11 buds
Departure tetraploid IB 9-12 buds
Enriched tetraploid MTB 12-16 buds
Fashion Holiday tetraploid IB 11-16 buds
Fresh Image tetraploid IB 9-12 buds
Halston tetraploid IB 11 buds
Infernal Fire BC TB 11-12 buds
Lapwing tetraploid IB 9-12 buds
Local Color TB 10-13 buds
Lucy Doodle RE tetraploid MTB 9-11 buds
Mesmerizer SA TB10-15 buds
My Souvenir tetraploid MTB 11-12 buds
Reformation tetraploid IB 10-12 buds
Reincarnation RE SA TB 8-10 buds
Saucy tetraploid IB 9-14 buds
Smash tetraploid RE MTB 9-11 buds
White Wine tetraploid MTB 8-13 buds
Zandria TB 9-11 buds
Zebra Blush Variegated leaf TB 10 buds
Zebra Night Variegated leaf TB 10 buds
Ziggy BC TB 9-10 buds
This list is just the irises I grow that shows good
bud count. I know there are a lot more irises out
there that have excellent bud count but perhaps some
of the others in the group can report on what they
grow.
