I don't think that plicata genetics are responsible for haft marks. I have
introduced very cleanly marked plants ( eg: Ermaosa Skies) from plicata
parentage with absolutely no haft marks.
Is it possible that the plic your plic x non-plic cross carried luminata
genes?
Sometimes their only visible effect on a plicata is to enhance the pattern.
but I have also had clean hafts (as I explained) on selfs from crosses
involving luminata genes (maybe the plicata genes dropped out and the luminata
genes were the ones delivered to the "clean" seedling. Just a hypothesis; you
may well be right.
