ReHYB: question - genetics of haft marks?

The plicata parent of REramosa Skies was Chubby Cheeks, a regular plicata pattern, but probably 3 glaciata genes and one regular gene so Eramosa Skies could have only the glaciata genes and no regular plicata genes. But that said, glaciata and luminata genes are considered to be plicata genes. If you mean only the regular plicata gene and not the other two known alleles , then I can't challenge that with direct evidence, but perhaps some indirect evidence may count here. American Classic, a regular plicata patten, no luminata genes present, dropped out of Schriners breeding from selfs etc, but no haft maks in those named varieties in the pedigree. If the regular plicata gene caused haft marks, they would have been present in the Schreiner plants ancester to and descendent from these lines, and they are not present. The Schreiner lines of blues are very free of haft marks.

I don't think that plicata genetics are responsible for haft marks. I have
introduced very cleanly marked plants ( eg: Ermaosa Skies) from plicata
parentage with absolutely no haft marks.

Is it possible that the plic your plic x non-plic cross carried luminata
genes?
Sometimes their only visible effect on a plicata is to enhance the pattern.
but I have also had clean hafts (as I explained) on selfs from crosses
involving luminata genes (maybe the plicata genes dropped out and the luminata
genes were the ones delivered to the "clean" seedling. Just a hypothesis; you
may well be right.
