Re: HYB: question - genetics of haft marks

Thanks Neil - Sounds like you've never been tempted to try crossing a
<half the fall covered by veins> seedling (like my DC1) with something
with no veins showing?

Anybody else out there tried that kind of cross?

Chuck, your comment that it took a lot of effort to breed "messy" hafts
out of TBs makes me wonder if it isn't multiple dominant alleles, any
one of which results in some kind of contrasting vein pattern. Maybe
part of the pollinator guidance system.

DC1 came from DUSKY CHALLENGER and GRAPE ICE. GRAPE ICE died
immediately after delivering pollen for the cross, so I have no idea
what hafts on it looked like. DC has clean hafts, but I think there is
a bit of lighter color in the throat.

A bunch of rowdy bee pod babies from DC1 bloomed this spring - all were
very hafty, but some not as much as parent DC1. One looked very much
like an aphylla derivative - short, loaded with blooms and branches and
dainty MTB type blooms. The rest ranged from selfs to near amoena
neglectas.

seedlings that show Umbrata patterns have varied from
half the fall covered ..by.. veins ....no Umbrata...

sorted out if one cared to spend a generation working
with thousands of seedlings. Neil Mogensen z 7 Reg 4 western NC
