HYB: end of TBs, pollen donors

Thank goodness, TB bloom season is finally almost over.  Unheard of to
have "spring" bloom here continuing into June!  First TBs were in bloom
April 22.

Only things left are the last blooms on LIGHTNING RIDGE, MADE OF MAGIC,
the unknown pinkish bronze, MISSOURI MIST, CLOUD BERRY, STRAWBERRY
PLAINS, LEGENDS OF FALL, and a few scattered blooms on a few seedlings.
Stalk of BLACK ANDROMEDA folded its last bloom yesterday.

This was another good year for fertile pod plants and fertile pollen,
some from here, some from other gardens with generous owners.  In my
garden, ROMANTIC EVENING continues to yield good pollen on struggling
plants, SHARPSHOOTER (new this year) had one miserable looking stalk
with two deformed blooms, both gave good pollen.  ABOVE THE CLOUDS (new
this year) gave good pollen, and set pods on nearly every bloom - it has
great erect chunky stalks, blooms with great substance, size & width.
I'll worry about color another year... or several years from now...
ALPENVIEW made a lovely clump, and although none of the anthers were
full, managed to get enough grains of pollen on a few things to set a
couple of pods.

Of the dozen or so 'gift' pollen donors (cultivars fertile within 100
miles of my house <g>), only TREASURED, SOCIETY PAGE, and SACRED HARP
set pods on anything - might be a pod from SECRET SERVICE and BOLD
ENCOUNTER, but they may not make it.

Just thought I'd share that list of 'good' pollen donors for this
general area in case anybody else is thinking of trying to use them.
