Interesting that you should bring this up. I taught her how to cross irises
several years ago and she made a few crosses. Planted some seed. A third
pregnancy, with two children already, slowed her down.
She informed me yesterday that she was making crosses again! I was
demonstrating how bees can pollinate irises. She said, "You mean you don't put the
pollen on the beard?" Some well known hybridizers have made this same mistake
in the beginning so it's not a surprise.
She has lots of enthusiasm, after 20 years, so I've no question she will
soon be showing off some laced seedlings!
This is one of those acquaintances that you have to accept 'as is!' When
you try to explain something, either in person or on the phone, she talks over
everything you say. You learn to just shake your head or say "uh, huh!" I'm
not at all surprised that her brain contains a lot of misinformation.
