Does anyone use goat hair, other than angora, for textiles? I
know some ethnic rugs are goat and I thought it was sort of wiry. In angoras is
it the undercoat or something that is used? Maybe that is undergoat...

  Anner (and anyone else :-).

Yes, goat hair is used for knitting. Usually those that raise goats, do some spinning but some send them out to 'mills' to be processed. Different kinds of goats provide different kinds of roving. The Brown Sheep Co. headquartered in Nebraska (very large U.S. cooperative with extraordinary fine yarns) uses mohair in their most popular yarn, Lamb's Pride, which contains 15% mohair and isn't itchy, btw. Usually when folks talk about goat hair, it is usually angora or Cashmere (which is a type not a breed, etc.) but that is changing in the textile community.
