This one is for those of you who keep track of iris with fragrance.
A 'bonus' iris COUNTRY SKY bloomed today for the first time here and I paused to say hello as I bustled by. COUNTRY SKY however has a very heady sweet aroma, and a simple hello was not enough.
I had to back up, sniff again, and then dive in. I kid you not the bloom was bruised before I could pull myself away. Now that may sound like heaven to those of you who make a habit of sniffing flowers, but I am not of that ilk, so you know this one smells powerful.
The thing that caught my attention was that the scent was highly familiar, it reminded me of my grandma. She used to have these perfume sticks, like a chap-stik but perfume, and I'm absolutely sure the smell was the same as one of those. The only names I remember from those are lilac and honeysuckle. I don't think it's quite musky enough to be lilac, so I would say honeysuckle for those of you who want to know what it smells like. But for me 'like grandma' is good enough.
