Betty, could you clarify a bit?
Were the envelopes regular paper envelopes like the kind you mail stuff
in?
Do you mean the pollen did not rest on the powdered milk because the
pollen was in envelopes?
Did you scrape the pollen from the anthers into the envelope?
I had some luck with frozen pollen last year, dried for a few days to
make sure the anther tissue wasn't wet, then put in little plastic snap
top containers, put those inside a bigger plastic snap top container,
then inside a zip lock bag in the self defrosting freezer.
Same routine didn't work this year with IMMORTALITY pollen collected
last fall. But she is so fussy, I'm not surprised.
<Frozen pollen: None of my fall crosses 2005 would take so I froze
pollen.
First I put some powdered milk in a gallon zip lock
bag and placed the bag in
the freezer. (Per Colleen)
As fall bloom season progressed I put several
envelopes containing pollen
into the gallon bag. The pollen did not rest on the
powered milk. I dried the
anthers about 2 hours each before I placed them in
the envelopes and then
into the bag. >
