Vinegar is a chemical. It has to be used in such a quantity that it and changes ph of soil.

I'm glad to hear that vinegar works.  I've been considering using it
because I have chemical sensitivities myself, but didn't want to use
something that was ineffective or seemed to cause issues to my wanted
plants.

Does the vinegar seen to affect any flowers or vegetables if not sprayed
directly on the plants?
