Well HELLO Maggie... and welcome to the list. And, I'll tell you a secret -
we ALL have lots to learn! I don't believe anyone on this list would profess
to knowing all there is to know about irises (well... there might be ONE
person.... <g>).
Anyway, our club feels a kinship with the Canadian Iris Society since we
teter on the border of Ontario, where most of your members are. Although
Nova Scotia is not exactly down the block, I'm happy to see another 'northern
sister' on the robin.
Now for the good news.... our region, Region 2, is planning a Japanese Iris
Symposium at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario. The symposium
will consist of four noted speakers in the field (John Coble of Ensata
Gardens and Terry Aitken of Salmon Creek Gardens AND SJI Prez, AND VP for
AIS, already penciled in)... a gourmet lunch... an auction... and LOTS of fun
and camaraderie. My only reason for not posting all the details to the
Iris-L is that we have not yet finalized the date (we are targeting October
11th right now... our Columbus Day weekend - your Thanksgiving weekend).
We will keep registration at around $50 US, which will most likely include a
souvenier tee shirt.
Mark your calendar... Hamilton is not far from Toronto - and flights into
Toronto are generally VERY reasonable.
Kathyguest... chomping at THIS bit! And who suggests that anyone who is
interested should let me know ASAP since the seating for the room at the RBG
is only 80!
