Celia--
There seems to be a lot of people wanting to attach names to unnamed
iris they are growing. There are LOADS of iris that can and do look
VERY SIMILAR! It is much too dangerous to just attach a name based on
reading a post here on what someone thinks may be the correct name.
If you want to be TOTALLY SURE what your unknown iris is--buy, steal, or
trade for a rhizome of what you think it may be--grow it right next to
your unnamed iris--then next bloom season inspect all aspects of the
flower, then make a judgment--it's much safer that way--but even that
way can have its' drawbacks as some are VERY close and may look exactly
like another one.
BTW, there are about 70,000 registered iris names--so you can see how
dangerous it can be playing the "name game"!
