OT-BIO Dorothy C. Frisbie

I've been reading the postings for several days to get the feel of the
subscribers -- I recognize some of the names because of my membership in
AIS, and realize that most of their information and discussions are above
the level of my involvement in iris. HOWEVER, I find it fascinating and
informative.

I am a member of the San Diego-Imperial Valley Iris Society which has not
been particularly successful in recruiting new members and sustaining a high
level of enthusiasm among older members. One 'new member' exception is
Steve Rocha (be sure to see his web page! I saw it while browsing for
American Iris Society; it is listed under other pages of interest.)

As Program Chairman I would like suggestions from other society members as
to what programs have proved successful in their group -- HELP!

Although my property (a bare lot 12 years ago) is 83' by almost 200', my
iris bed is small -- approx. 30' long by 14' at one end and 20' at the
other. It is jammed with iris, and interplanted with daylilies and other
flowers to add color during the 'off-season' for iris. I'm currently
weeding out some of the older unidentified ones (I used to gratefully accept
any and all without regard for background info) and replacing with
rebloomers (off-season iris). Because there is no room for expansion of the
iris bed I am considering the possibility of pot cultivation -- that is,
cultivation of iris in pots!!!! Any help out there on that?

I live in Escondido, about 30 miles north of San Diego and inland from the
cities of Oceanside and Carlsbad about 25 miles. I am at this point almost
entirely limiting my color choices to blue (not blue-violet), pink (not
peach or salmon), yellow, and white.
