Re: SPEC/REF--Cambridge Univ. Press Species Book

Wow! Don't mess with Anner!

Seriously, many thanks--I ordered the book too, and seem to have lost the
original charged invoice so may not have noticed the overcharge. I'll be
looking for my copy and let the list know if the corrections were made in
response to Anner's phone call.

On another note--I spent most of today in Richmond where my son had a
medical appointment. The weather was delightfully clear and cool, quite
rare for mid-May in this part of Virginia. We strolled around the region
of the Strawberry Street Cafe (an old part of town called The Fan, now
heavily into gentrification) and saw many lovely old irises. But without
Anner and Henry's expertise, couldn't put names on them. Anyway, it was
enough just to see and smell them and enjoy the beauty. The old row houses
usually have only small front gardens, and what we saw left us wishing we
could somehow gain access to the undoubtedly wonderful back gardens. Even
if you cruise the alleyways, most are blocked by garages and old carriage
houses. Interesting though that one sees little evidence of home
greenhouses. Travelling by train in Britain and peeping from the windows
of a speeding express into back gardens, I was struck by the fact that
about every fifth home had a small greenhouse. I want one! But right now
we're saving for a good canoe.

How to find enough time and money for gardening AND fishing....?
