Dorothy, I have grown blue flax for years and it likes it dry. Don't
look for freebies from a friends garden. They do not transplant well. If
you go to a garden center and they are growing in quart containers--pass
on them. Small plants have a much higher transplant success rate--and
they are cheaper. Blue flax will not tolerte soil that is not very well
drained.
