Thanks, Kay, that is just one more bit of info I needed re its use as a
companion plant for iris.  It will NOT be included in the iris bed, but it
does seem to be a good choice for some presently unoccupied areas near where
some salvias, both greggii and some white- and blue-flowered cultivars are
growing.
That area would be in the areas around baccharis and ceanothus that don't
like water in the summer.

BTW, what part of New York?  The city or upstate?  I'm from Syracuse.
