Happy Memorial weekend everyone:
Just went to the local iris show yesterday . Took a few things, and saw
loads! Inspiration for future years!!!
Back to topic:
While out and about I found (and of course purchased ;-) ) a siberian
that I cannot find in the '91 checkllist. It is a large dark, highly
saturated blue, and was labelled 'Outset' on professionally manufactured
tags. Is anyone familiar with this variety? Who hybridized it? Ploidy? etc.
I wonder if it may be of European extraction (?) since the owners are
Dutch, and they have several uncommon (primarily Dutch) offerings.
Iquized the owners( who pride themselved on their plantsmanship) about the
plants ploidy, and was confidently told that only daylilies had been
converted to tetraploids! I did my best to convince them that iris
hybridizers had been doing the same thing for decades, butwith meager
success. I may send her a xerox copy of a good article from 'The
Siberian Iris' journal!
Thanks to all of you for your help on past questions. I'm grateful for the
assistance.
