Adrienne,
In their natural habitat (West Coast) they grow naturally in lightly
wooded areas, on sloping ground that is gritty and well-drained with
soil neutral to slightly acid and with considerable humus. Most of the
moisture the irises recieve comes during the winter either as rain or,
at higher altitues, as snow. They thrive where the summers are normally
long and dry.
