First off i wish to thank all the friendly people who have allowed me to
read all this wonderful mail and answered my questions. I have learned a
lot just by being on line and seeing how many of you genuinely car for
each other.

I am sorry if anyone sensibilities were riled by my using caps. It
happens to be the business standard in this part of the world for one
thing. Second since I have a hard time seeing it is much easier to use
caps. Third, though my profession was a programmer and system analysis I
never really learned to type very well before i was bumped upstairs and
had someone else do my typing for me. Finally this is my first attempt to
use E-mail and did not realize the formality of the situation by reading
the mail. Seemed to me the group was friendlier than that.

One other point is the first rule of management is to praise in public
chew in privates. I don't really know whose edicate book people have been
reading but to correct my ignorance of someone supposed standards in
public is uncouth to say the least.

Now as to what pigeon hole of an area code I'll try to answer using
Sunset Wester Garden book as a guide. On the Central Cost Climate Zone
map I live some where between a 7 and a 15. but per the discriptive zones
a 8 or a 9 seem to describe our weather better.

We are in wine country with temperature varying between 40 to 60 degrees
each day. A winter day with frost can still be 75 or 80 during the day
and still have frost before morning. Zones based on temperature alone do
not work here because 7 miles north of here in San Michale the
temperature can be 10 to 20 degrees hotter than here and 7 miles south of
here in Atascaro the temperature can be 10 to 15 degrees cooler.
Where our local Iris Farm is just 20 miles from here and they get 10
times as much rain as we get.

Now as to PCI vs PCN : I have three varies of "PCI's" "Big Wheel" &
"Lunar Eclipse" purchased from Aitken's Salmon Creek Garden" and listed
in their catalog as "Pacific Coast Iris Hybrids (PCI)" the others were
sold to me from a local nursery as I. douglasiana. This and I. innominata
are listed by Sunset in the paragraph labels "Pacifica Cost irises". Are
only the hybrids listed as PC I and the more common naturals varieties
listed as PCN or is PCN just a standard set by someone somewhere?

I do applicate all the knowledge and help received so far and will stop
buying from those other two giants on the west cost and start buying from
superstition who has been so kind with his time in helping all of us.

I apologies again for using caps for no offence was meant and i I'm
surprised any was taken.

Dave, Audrey's Husband the old man who is a young garner
see above for what zone I might be in.
