Tell the cat that you love it very much,  but if it messes with your
irises again, you'll get angry.  You'd be surprised how much they REALLY
DO (yes I did use ALL CAPS!)  understand!  If that doesn't work,  sit
outside with a Supersoaker,  and they'll get the message really quick! 
No, it's not cruel,  we use choke chains on dogs,  shooting a cat  with
a water gun is minor league!
