Well, grump. The frothier TBs seem to have had at least their terminal
flower buds partially damaged by the near freezing temps last week. My
next door neighbor's tomato plants were killed & cabbages injured by it,
so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. No damage visible on most of the
doggier ones and some of the moderns are also ok. An interesting great
big Japanese style bloom on JESSE'S SONG, that I kinda liked. Will
report later on the newer ones that were not injured, for those in the
rollercoaster freeze zone.
I daubed pollen from ZING ME on a few odd choices - my favorite pallida
cross, APRICOT GIANT (good heavens, what a great ol big frothy
flower!). Not much pollen & not many blooms on ZING ME, & not much open
yet that I count as reliable bloomers here. Saved a couple of anthers
for LACY SNOWFLAKE & HARVEST OF MEMORIES.
Sharon McAllister is right - growing a little of everything does mean
that something or other is likely to bloom, no matter what the timing of
freezes. Although there are clearly some that tolerate getting frozen
or chilled better than others.
