Hi listers,
I need to pick your brains!
I am currently working on a database in Access for my own garden plants and
have run into a bit of a problem. I don't really know what classifications I
should be adding.
So far, I have:
Common Name (eg. Peg Edwards);
Latin Name (eg. Iris Siberica);
Variety (eg. Siberian Iris).
I have a spot for:
Hybridiser,
Light Preference,
Date Purchased,
Date Planted,
Place Purchased,
Location (in my garden). All pretty straight forward stuff.
I am having trouble with Colour, Species and Family. Is there a basic color
breakdown? I have so far divided the colors to White, Black, Red, Blue,
Pink, Purple, Yellow and Orange. I also have a spot for Notes, where I am
putting (if it is an iris variety) Amoena, bi-tone, bi-color etc.
What is the definition of Species? I have put "Iris" or "Daylily" or other
plant type in this area. I think this is wrong though. Is there a better
name for this field, given the examples above?
Also, what is the definition of Family? In this field, I have put
"Perennial" or "Shrub" or "Annual"or whatever, again I don't know if this is
right. Is there a better name for this field, given the examples above?
Any help on this would be appreciated!
