Good evening Iris Talkers!
The Tulsa Area Iris Society had it's show on May 1 through May 2 and
Linda, Matthew and myself were there working from April 30th - May 2nd.
This was only the second Iris show we have attended and we had a
wonderful time! We saw iris at the show that we have never seen before,
we had only heard about some of these or read about or seen them in
catalogs. The catalog pictures did not even come close to doing them
justice!
The judging took place on Saturday morning, May 1, from 10:30 am till
around 1 pm. We had 5 judges, all from Oklahoma City. From 1 pm until
6 pm on Saturday (the 1st)and 11 am until 5 pm on Sunday (the 2nd) the
show was open to the public and we had a huge crowd of people coming
through, on both days, to view the iris. While the show was open to the
public the Society members mingled with the crowd explaining the many
iris and making themselves helpful in any way and also taking orders for
the Society's iris to be held on July 10th. We had a very good two days
of selling! :)
The Tulsa Society also provided supper, after setup was completed, for
the working club members on Friday, April 30th. We had a pot luck
dinner on Saturday the 1st and again on Sunday the 2nd. I must say that
the ladies and men of the Tulsa club are really some good cooks! We had
several home made pecan pies, cheese cake, candy, cookies, cakes and
several other types of deserts! You all notice I mentioned the deserts
first! :) This is the first time I have been around a group of people
where so many of them are excellent cooks. I always look forward to the
pot luck dinners we have, you couldn't get better food at a fine
restaurant!
Anyway, the results of the show are listed below. I did make a couple
of mistakes when writing down the results; I did not make a note of who
the exhibitor was on Best Apogon, I did not list which species won Best
Species and I did not write down all the Youth winners, only the Youth
Blue. I really feel bad about not listing all the Youth winners, this
was really an over sight on my part. Hope you all enjoy reading the
results and if any of you ever have the time to attend one of the Tulsa
shows I hope that you can do so. The Tulsa Society usually has two shows
in the spring, the first one to cover all the Early and Early/Mid
bloomers and the second one (on or near Mother's day) to cover the Mid,
Mid/Late and Late bloomers but because of the convention in OKC this
year it was decided not to have the second show.
Enjoy, Glenn
