Lynn, after you have grown rebloomers for a while, you will find out that
they are highly individualistic. Many rebloomers that try (or even succeed)
in sending up late rebloom stalks suffer for it regarding spring bloom. I
had Tea Leaves for three or four years before I ever saw spring bloom, but
it now blooms regularly spring and fall (late) each year. However, if the
fall bloom gets caught in a nasty cold snap, it really sets the clump back.
Make sure you trim immediately any rebloom stalk that gets zapped all the
way back to the rhizome, or you risk losing the whole clump to rot. Some
rebloomers (like Champagne Elegance, for me) like to be divided yearly;
others, like Lloyd's Immortality, dislike being moved and do better in the
same spot for as long as possible. I have never had set back on any iris
that I dug in my own garden and immediately replanted, regardless of the
time of year. The trick is to dig up a huge clump of soil with the iris,
and it never even knows its been moved! Rebloomers should always receive
excellent locations in your garden and the extra attention of water and
feeding; they will pay you back for this many times over if you are patient
and don't give up!
