Re: CULT: Bloom Out, Preventing

Welcome aboard Kitty:    We are to the East of you in the Sierras and have had up and down weather this year ( including late freeze )  We are also experienceing some bloom only stalks, at this time I feel it is the plants protection system as we have not reach consistent weather yet. I am planning a wait and see until the weather settles to see if we get late increases. I cannot say this will work for you but it is a thought.  Bill on the West slopes of the Sierras, east of SF.

Subject: [iris-talk] CULT: Bloom Out, Preventing

I would like ideas on how to encourage Iris which look like they are heading towards bloom out, to start growing new plant growth!  I apologize if this has been discussed before and I didn't catch it.   I have a guest garden for our Region's Spring garden tour meeting for next year.  I am looking at my guest bed plants which are blooming nicely the first year, and see a few problems.   The vast majority are showing nice increase on the plants, however, I have a few that are blooming on the single rhizome with no sign of new increase.
The only ideas I have heard in years past is to throw extra fertilizer on the plant.  If any of you have successful ideas and/or what not to do, I would appreciate your comments.   Thanks.
