I still think they would have given the awards to the best of what was before
them. It took a long time to get anything approaching a real pink, or real
ruffles, or lace or good clear pastels other than lavender or yellow. The
other colors arose sooner out of the gene pool.You can't give an award to a
good lacy pink until someone makes one. One of the reasons that working with
the early checklist color charts is such a bear is that they were making some
fine distinctions between a lot of irises which were pretty similar when
compared to the variation we see today, and in some cases not making them
consistently. Also made some boo-boos.
