V. sez:
Part of this has to do with the way the polling is done.
Remember that you are voting for your "favorites" - but
only if they are on the Symposium list. Since new ones are
listed only 2-3 years after introduction, and since you are
not supposed to vote for anything that you have not
actually seen BLOOMING in a garden, most of these new ones
on the list have not been seen by enough people to get many
votes. Two years of that, and they are off the ballot.
Then, when the price has dropped and everyone has it and is
saying how nice it is, it's no longer on the Symposium
list! I'd kinda like to see a list where people could vote
for ANYTHING - not just ballot choices. I suspect that
newer varieties would be more prevalent on such a list.
Re: older ones winning shows - You paid $45 for a new intro
last year. You now have one stalk blooming. Are you gonna
chop down your one and only stalk to take to the show, or
one of DUSKY CHALLENGER, of which you have 20 stalks to
choose from, and can select the one with the freshest
blooms and best branching?
