SDB: Chuck Chapman

From: Irisborer@aol.com

Good morning happy iris people.

Last night Peter and I blew up to Hamilton, Ontario, for a planning meeting
of the Y2003 Siberian Iris Convention. It was a great and productive meeting
- with the bonus of getting to see some futures coming along from Canadian
hybridizer Chuck Chapman.

Chuck truly marches to a different drummer.... and is someone to watch, IMHO.
His seedlings are not only extraordinary in their form - but he's exploring
colors and combinations I haven't seen elsewhere.

Chuck has one sweet little thing that is honest to goodness GREEN. Now, it's
a sea green, but green it is, no question about it. In fact, the standards
are greener than the falls. There's another with that same green on the ends
of the style arms where the stigmatic lip is... and that's poised over a
silver beard. That seedling itself is a strange plicata of silver over white
with yellow blended into the falls.

There was one that was obviously a RUBY ERUPTION kid, only darker with a more
intense yellow center.

There was one sweet thang that was a foreboding darkest red.

There were several using the lavendar and yellow plicata idea... one with a
greenish yellow rim on the falls.

I just love to look at seedings.... it's like peering into a crystal ball and
seeing what's next in irisdom. And Chuck offers plenty of 'out there' stuff
to keep the most jaded iris person on point. His catalog just came... and
will get a workout fer sher.

convention next post with it's own special subject tag
