Re: TB: Scented iris

Tom Murray asked about scented iris.  There are so many varieties that have scent of one "flavor" or another.  I can only speak about some TBs, which is the reason I put the heading on here that I did.  Real "grapey" scent in a couple old luminatas, ALADDIN'S WISH (Murawska, 1943) and PRETTY PANSY (Sass, 1955 I think).  Schreiner's CRINOLINE (sometime in the '60s, I think) also has the sweet scent of Concord grapes.  But this only is a slight scratch on the surface.  Libby Cross has a large list available at a modest cost, a list of many fragrant iris that includes what the fragrance is.  She has been on this list, I think still is.  If you want her e-mail address, please let me know off-list.
The garden near Princeton, IL, is Hornbaker Gardens, RR #4, Box 235A, Princeton, IL, 61356.  Ph. (815) 659-3282.  They'll send you a list of what they have, and it may well note the fragrances of at least some of the iris.  They also have a hosta and a daylily list.  Great place to visit, too.
