Two and a half years ago I planted seeds from a couple bee
pods from CANDY APPLE (SDB) and half a dozen bee pods
from my local I. APHYLLA. One of the seedlings from CANDY
APPLE formed a good sized clump by the second year from
seed and had quite a few blossoms. This year the clump has
doubled in size again. This seedling has larger flowers than
it's pod parent, broader petals, darker color which holds
well in sun and rain. It is quickly becoming one of the two
favorite SDB's I grow. My other favorite is AZ AP.

The rest of the seedlings from CANDY APPLE are blooming
now. None of them have made a good sized clump yet.
All are similar in color and shape to the pod parent, but
have noticeably different shades. I will probably only
keep the first blooming, most prolific seedling.

The APHYLLA bee pod seedlings all look identical to each
other and the pod parent. The APHYLLA and CANDY APPLE
parent plants were grown in close proximity to other
APHYLLA's, SDB's, IB's, and a few TB's.

Dan Mason zone 3, NW Ontario,
Where SDB's are now in full bloom
and IB's just beginning.
