Preparing beds for winter

   I'm a beginner. I started an Iris bed 18 moths ago with about 75 
plants. I had some wonderful results this past summer.  My question 
is "Should I do anything special to that bed to improve my results 
next year ?" I live in Michigan and expect a harsh winter. Thank-you.
