Re: TBS: Cult: Growth report (long)

Brava! I like that new mindset.

My mindset is somewhat different. Except for a few commercial gardens I patrionize yearly, because their rhizomes are larger than I can grow, I usually look at a new iris to my garden as something I have to nurture for a year or more before getting something of bloom size. I call it a "start". These starts usually come to me in the form of trades, gifts, and from other commercial gardens. It is quite a rush to get several golf-ball sized rhizomes from a Jaw-Breaker sized "start".

I've lost a number of the original rhizomes I purchased last year, but there are increases coming up along side "Dead Mamma" on many of them this fall. I'm beginning to develop a new mind set here in Northeast WI. I'll buy that new TB and "borrow" it while it makes babies that will be better adapted to my climate and clay soil......I hope!

There was a great deal of loss, but mostly the leaves that were showing right now were from new increases that came up off the old mother rhizome within the last month.
