Patrick,
You could do this by using two sheets of acrylic. Drill holes through both
sheets, both for the iris to go through and to bolt the two sheets together.
Run a bolt with a finish washer on it through the holes putting a 1/4"
spacer between the two sheets and a nut on the bottom. Then you could
crumple up the tissue paper, or mylar sheets and stuff them between.
Patterned tissue paper, metallics, all kinds of things!!

Thank you ALL for the wonderful, informative, and supportive comments
regarding my posting on English Boxes. You have given me all the
information I need to take back to the show committee and proceed with the
planning.
In reading the comments, a visual came to mind that I thought I would share
with you. I am not sure how well received my active imagry would be, or how
feesable it would be to make them, but in my mind they are beautiful.
For those of you who know the basic design of an english box...now imagine
them made all in clear acrylic. Now that you have done that, fill the
inside of the box with colored tissue paper or silver or gold mylar sheets
wadded up (in order to add color and hide the water vials and stems inside
the box). I am thinking it would be stunning on a white table cloth with
irises sticking out of them, but not quite sure if it would detract from the
flowers or not.
Gerry Snyder...I think your idea of compiling the comments for the AIS to
see is a great idea
Anyway, thanks again for all the nice postings...
