Sylvain,
Vous avez raison!
As an example of how an iris that originated outside North America was
introduced so that it was eligible for AIS awards, I cite the case of AURA
LIGHT.
In 1993 Barry Blyth registered his Australian-bred seedling A106-4 with the
American Iris Society as "AURA LIGHT". He shipped stock of this
unintroduced seedling to Keith Keppel in Oregon, who propagated it and
introduced it in his 1996 catalog. Once AURA LIGHT had received this
initial and exclusive introduction in North America, Barry introduced it in
his own Tempo Two catalog in Australia in the southern spring (=northern
fall) of 1996. Note that the southern spring of one calendar year is paired
with the northern spring of the following calendar year to constitute one
"registration year". Thus the introduction of AURA LIGHT is recorded in the
AIS 1999 Checklist as "Keppel 1996, Tempo Two 1996/97". Having fulfilled
the conditions of eligibility for AIS awards, AURA LIGHT was voted an HM in
1998 and an AM in 2000, and entered the first of its three years of
eligibility for the Wister Medal in 2002.
