Another example? The seedling I posted last night is one of three to try to
rebloom (so far) from the cross. The first seedling tried to bloom the first
fall and was killed off by that Late Freeze in 2002. The second one is the
one you saw. The Third one was hit with roundup and the terminal bloom is a
typical product of this. A lower bloom looks like it could bloom normal, but how
will I know since I've not seen it before? It appears to have a darker
purple/blue fall WITH a very narrow pale blue rim!
Anyone else critique buds? LOL!
But . . . to the point. None of these have the best (or near best) increase
and/or plant growth of the cross. One very healthy and beautiful clump is
threatening to take over the bed! Because I AM impressed by a healthy and pretty
clump, I'd tagged this as #1! I've not seen it bloom yet, and I DID have
hopes for this fall.
This cross IS producing very pretty seedlings (a favorite color pattern) and
I'll line the elusive bloomer out next year to see if it will behave better
here! If not, maybe it can contribute the plant habits to the line! ;-)
Back to the garden.
