AIS: Online R & I's - another way (not a CD)

online version does in fact need more work than the printed one.
It has to be indexed, and I believe there are several indexes
required (consider all the different things you can search for).

** IMO,this amount of stuff (indexes, etc) belongs on a CD not a
simple 'look-it-up' form. **

1) when the yearly R & I's are made ready for printing - have
the film from the composing computer in the print shop saved
electronically (as is).

2) those who want to look up the R & I's for 2002 (or other
subsequent years) can do so with the info just like it appears
in the book. I actually find that preferable than the numerous
ways to find something as we have it now. Simple is good and
more people will use it.

3) no volunteers (maybe one :-), no complaining about "I can't
find this or that"- save J.I.J plenty in time and serenity. :-)

4) this simple e-checklist should be free to life members (I
like that for selfish reasons)

5) anyone wants a CD, let them pay 'big' money OR do the work
themselves. After all, the info is out there in the books. If
they gave credit to or obtained permission from AIS for the
material and ran a disclaimer, what is the problem? AIS is not a
sacred cow and everyone (especially the B.O.D) should stop
acting like it is unique in the universe. We should be glad that
folks want to publicize our R & I's and use our _public_ records
in this way.

6) the American Iris Society exists to promote growing of
irises.
 - and we should add: and to serve its members - which the
affiliates do very well indeed.

Cheers,

Ellen in NH
