Re: COMP: ?software

   You're ok, I don't feel dumped on... I myself wouldn't worry about a
problem. For home use, it would be more than what I'd ever need. I do
acknowledge though, that different OCR software and equipment may effect the
results or at minimum your expectations.
I worked on a project that evaluated the OCR method for the conversion of
large amounts of public records, which had to be accurate. One site I
evaluated had taken City documents and OCR'ed them, and they confirmed for
me they had successfully gone back though a couple of decades with near 100%
accuracy. They problem they had was not with the scanning and OCR
software, the problem had to do with the quality of the source documents.
Back in the '60s,'70s, and even '80s, some government offices were still
using typewriters (remember them?), and the fonts and clarity/darkness of
each keystroke on the pages were not consistent, which led to a lower
success rate in the scanning/OCR process for those older years only.
