lol,
I was just thinking the same thing as John J.,..... well, sorta...
Those who don't vote can't complain. I heard a statistic that said that in
any organization of hobby/volunteer type people something like ten percent
of the people do all of the work. And, those ten percent are also the ones
who go to the trouble to be at the right meetings at the right time to vote
on the issues... go to the trouble to inform their reps (who are the people
going to the nationial conventions and actually casting the votes to make
the rules/decisions) what they want. This ten percent is often composed of
the same individuals from year to year, only changing when someone gets
burned out or some bold young whipper-snapper comes along.
What do the other ninety percent do? They get the magazine and maybe attend
shows.
Why is it always the same individuals? Why doesn't the ten percent of
active members rotate through the availiable pool of members? That's where
personalities and social politics come in. It's a frustration I am very
familiar with. It isn't that the ninety percent aren't just as interested
in the societies goals/ activities, it's that something about the way the
group is structured makes them feel left out, unable to get involved.
Sometimes it's all about status quo. The ten percent have done the same
things for so many years that they simply all already know who's going to do
what and how... so that someone who is trying to be active perceives
themselves as useless...
...... hmm,.... my train of thought just jumped the tracks...
I think my basic idea is that the 'disconnect' between AIS and TBIS is old
enough (judging from what I'm reading) that the voters involved 'should'
have been dilluted by now... but per the above, this is not happening...
quick sand....
Go grass roots...
