One should also note that only a couple percent of Schreiner's business is from AIS members. As much as AIS tries to promote irises, I don't think it really has that much impact. I think the general public has a preference for TBs mostly because: A: their grandmother grew them B: There are new colors that weren't around years ago (yes it is also true for the other classes) C: Bigger, taller more noticeable flower.

I love the other classes too, and grow a lot of them, but they just don't sell as well to the general public and hybridizers are generally interested in making money too. Yes, yes, yes, they have other motivations as well, no need to kick me about that one.
